Privacy policy
What we collect, how we use it, and your rights as a reader.
Last updated: May 14, 2026
Plain-language summary
HomeSensorLab is a content site. We do not run advertising networks, do not sell reader data, and do not set tracking cookies of our own. The minimal data we receive is what your browser sends to our web server in the normal course of loading a page — and, when you click an affiliate link, what that retailer's tracking cookie records on their side.
What we collect
The data we receive is limited to the following:
- Web server logs. Our web server (Caddy on a dedicated VPS) records standard access information — IP address, requested URL, timestamp, referrer, user agent — for operational purposes (debugging, security, traffic estimation). Logs are rotated and retained for no more than 30 days.
- DNS resolution data. Cloudflare provides DNS and edge caching for this domain. Cloudflare's privacy practices apply to that layer; see Cloudflare's privacy policy.
- Contact email content. If you write to us via the contact page, we receive your email address and the content you send. We use it only to respond to you.
We do not currently use a web analytics service, and we do not embed third-party tracking pixels. If we adopt analytics in the future, we will choose a cookie-free, privacy-respecting provider (e.g., Plausible) and update this policy before doing so.
Cookies
HomeSensorLab does not set any cookies of its own. The only cookies your browser may receive in connection with this site are:
- Cloudflare technical cookies (e.g.,
__cf_bm) used for bot mitigation and security at the network edge. These do not track you across other sites. - Affiliate-network cookies set by retailers when you click an outbound product link. For example, clicking an Amazon link results in Amazon setting a tracking cookie on the Amazon domain so that any subsequent purchase can be attributed to our referral. We receive only the aggregate fact that a purchase was attributed; we do not receive your identity, the items you bought, or the price you paid.
You can block or clear these cookies at any time through your browser settings without affecting your ability to read our content.
How we use what we receive
- To operate and secure the site (server logs).
- To respond to your messages (contact email).
- To understand which articles readers find useful (aggregate request patterns from logs).
- To attribute affiliate-driven purchases for accounting and FTC disclosure compliance.
Data sharing
We do not sell, rent, or share reader data with third parties for marketing purposes. Specifically:
- We do not share our server logs with anyone outside the editorial team.
- We do not transmit your email address to mailing-list providers (we do not currently operate one).
- Affiliate networks see only the attribution data your browser sends to them; that data is governed by the retailer's privacy policy, not ours.
Your rights (GDPR, CCPA, and similar laws)
If you are located in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, California, or another jurisdiction with applicable privacy laws, you have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you.
- Correct inaccurate information.
- Delete the information (right to erasure / right to be forgotten).
- Object to certain processing, including direct marketing (we do none).
- Withdraw consent at any time, where processing relies on consent.
- Opt out of "sale" of personal information (CCPA) — we do not sell information.
To exercise any of these rights, write to us via our contact page. We respond within 30 days as required by GDPR; CCPA requests within 45 days.
Children
HomeSensorLab is written for adult caregivers and family decision-makers. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 16. If we learn that we have, we will delete it. This site is not directed at children.
International transfers
Our infrastructure providers (Cloudflare for DNS, our VPS host for the origin server) operate data centers in multiple jurisdictions. Visiting this site may involve a transfer of your IP address and request data across borders. We rely on our providers' contractual safeguards (Standard Contractual Clauses where applicable) for these transfers.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the site evolves — for example, when we add an analytics provider, open a newsletter, or change affiliate networks. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent revision. Material changes will be highlighted at the top of this page for at least 30 days following the change.
