Independent research on safety technology for aging at home

We test, compare, and explain home safety tech for the families making decisions for aging parents — without taking money from the manufacturers we cover.

Why we exist

Searching for a fall-detection pendant or remote-monitoring camera is exhausting. The category is fragmented, the marketing is interchangeable, and the people doing the buying — adult children in their late 40s and 50s — are usually doing it under stress, on a deadline, with no good comparison data.

HomeSensorLab exists to bring an editorial review process to that category. We research the products, read the spec sheets the marketers don't link to, dig through regulatory filings and clinical research, and build the comparison tables we wish had existed when our own families needed them.

Our editorial standards

  • Independent research. No manufacturer pays for coverage. We work from publicly verifiable evidence — specifications, regulatory filings, peer-reviewed research, and conversations with caregivers and clinicians.
  • Desk research, honestly labeled. Our default evidence base is documented data and expert input. When a review is supplemented by first-party device handling, we say so inline; absent that note, assume the review is document-based.
  • Transparent affiliate disclosure. We are building toward affiliate participation but have no active programs at this time — see our full disclosure for the canonical list. When that changes, commission rates will never influence ranking order.
  • Real caregiver consultation. We work with occupational therapists and senior care professionals to validate use cases.
  • Reviewed every six months. Prices, policies, and devices change. Our reviews carry a "last reviewed" date and we update them on a schedule.

What we cover

Who we are

HomeSensorLab Editorial Team — Independent Research & Editorial

HomeSensorLab is an independent research project dedicated to evaluating home safety technology for aging adults. Our editorial process is document-based by default — combining manufacturer specifications analysis, regulatory filings, peer-reviewed research, and caregiver-focused use case research. When a review includes first-party device handling, we disclose that inline; otherwise, assume the review is built on publicly verifiable evidence. We are not caregivers ourselves, but we work directly with families, occupational therapists, and senior care professionals to ensure our reviews reflect real-world needs of older adults living independently or with assistance.

We are independent researchers, not caregivers. We don't pretend to have lived experience we don't have — instead we work directly with families and senior care professionals to ensure our reviews reflect real-world needs.

How we make money

HomeSensorLab does not currently have any active affiliate programs. We are in the process of applying to Amazon Associates and selected senior-tech advertiser programs on the Impact and ShareASale networks. When those relationships go live, qualifying purchases made through clearly marked links will earn us a small commission at no additional cost to you. Commissions will fund continued research — they will not change which products we recommend or how we rank them.
